Knickers are available in a variety of types depending on various factors, such as the amount of rear coverage, width at the sides and the height at which they are worn.

The most popular different types of knicker are explained below:

Knickers: Traditional briefs or knickers are the comfortable classics which come up higher on the waist or just below the naval, with full coverage at the rear. High-leg or medium-leg fits are available.

Shorts: Also known as shorties, boyshorts or boxers are a flattering style for curvy girls and very fashionable at the moment. Shorts start lower on the hip than briefs and finish lower on the leg. Shorts are a great choice for minimised VPL (visible panty line).

Thongs: Unlike briefs which have full coverage at the rear, thongs taper to a string at the back, avoiding VPL when wearing clingy dresses or trousers. The thin strip of material at the rear is designed to be worn between the buttocks. Thongs come in a variety of styles depending on the thickness and type of material at the rear.

G-String: One type of thong is the g-string, which consists only of a fabric string at the rear.

Hipsters: Similar to briefs, but are worn lower with the waistband around the hips.

Bikinis: Also worn at the hips, but the fabric at the sides is narrower. The rear coverage of the bikini is not as full as with the brief.

Tanga Briefs: Have full rear coverage but the waistband is reduced to a narrow strip at the sides.

French Knickers: These cover the hip, most of the upper thigh and all of the buttocks and have a loose-fitting leg. They do not have elasticated leg cuffs, but allow a pleated, more comfortable fit. Perfect for A-line skirts and loose-fitting dresses – or just on their own in the bedroom!

Control Panties: Usually made from a stretch material such as spandex and may extend above the waist.
